About Forth Valley Credit Union
Community finance built around people
Forth Valley Credit Union, formerly known as Falkirk District Credit Union, is a member-owned financial co-operative, supporting people and families across Falkirk, Stirling and Clackmannanshire.
Since 1995, we have provided a safe place to save and access to affordable loans designed around real life. Today, we combine trusted personal service with modern digital convenience, helping members feel more confident and in control of their finances.
We are owned by our members and run for their benefit. That means people, not profit, remain at the heart of every decision we make.
Our purpose
Our purpose is to improve financial wellbeing across the Forth Valley through fair, accessible and supportive financial services.
We want finance to feel understandable, approachable and inclusive. Whether someone is starting to save, planning for an important expense or looking for an affordable way to borrow, we are here to provide straightforward information and friendly support.
Our history
Our story began in June 1995, when the credit union was founded as Falkirk District Taxi Trade Credit Union. It became Falkirk District Credit Union in 2005, opening membership to the wider local community.
As the years passed, membership continued to grow. We also welcomed members from other local credit unions:
- Westquarter and Redding Community Credit Union in 2007
- Grangemouth Credit Union in 2014
- Upper Braes Credit Union in 2016
- Clackmannanshire Credit Union in 2024
- St Francis Xavier and St Mary’s Credit Union in early 2025
Each development brought new people and communities into the credit union while strengthening the shared values on which it was built.
In 2026, we became Forth Valley Credit Union. The name reflects the organisation we are today: one credit union connecting and supporting communities across the wider Forth Valley.
Our story at a glance

Supporting communities across the Forth Valley
Our roots are in Falkirk, but our community now reaches across Falkirk, Stirling and Clackmannanshire.
We support members in towns, villages and rural communities throughout the region, including Falkirk, Grangemouth, Bo’ness, Denny, Larbert, Polmont, Stirling, Bridge of Allan, Dunblane, Callander, Alloa, Alva, Clackmannan and many of the communities around them.
Wherever our members live or work, they are part of the same credit union: local, welcoming and focused on helping people build stronger financial futures.
What matters to us
We treat members as individuals, not account numbers. We listen, explain things clearly and provide support without judgement.
We build long-term relationships through honesty, consistency and care. Members should always feel confident about the information and service they receive from us.
We exist to strengthen the financial wellbeing of the people and families we serve. As we grow, our connection to local communities remains central to who we are.
We provide responsible savings and lending services with transparency and care. Our decisions are guided by what is right for our members.
Finance should feel understandable, approachable and inclusive. We use plain English and work to make our services easy to access.
We combine friendly personal service with convenient digital access, giving members different ways to manage their money and contact us.
Forth Valley Credit Union is shaped by the people behind it: our staff, volunteer Board and members.
Our staff support members every day, providing friendly and practical help with savings, loans and account enquiries.
Our volunteer directors bring a range of skills and local experience. They are elected by members and help ensure that the credit union continues to be run in their interests.
Together, our people share a commitment to improving financial wellbeing and making a positive difference across the Forth Valley.
Owned by our members
A credit union is different from a bank or other profit-driven financial institution.
Our members are also our owners. They elect the Board of Directors at the Annual General Meeting and have a say in how the credit union develops.
Any surplus we generate is used for the benefit of members—for example, by improving services, strengthening the credit union or providing a dividend on savings when circumstances allow.
Our vision
We want to see a financially stronger and more confident Forth Valley, where everyone has access to fair financial services.
By helping people save regularly, borrow responsibly and make informed decisions, we aim to support greater financial confidence and security throughout our communities.
Fair, accessible and community-focused financial services built around people.
