Meet the Team

Meet our Volunteer Directors

Our volunteer directors give their time and experience to help guide Forth Valley Credit Union, keeping members’ interests at the heart of its work. With strong local connections and a shared commitment to helping people save and borrow responsibly, they support the Credit Union’s development and its role in our communities. Meet the people behind our Board below.

Carol Simon

Carol previously worked for the Credit Union for five years before retiring to spend more time with her family. She later returned as a volunteer internal auditor and joined the Board in July 2026. Carol is passionate about helping members save and borrow responsibly, while raising awareness of the Credit Union across the community. Outside the organisation, she volunteers at her local playgroup and enjoys travelling, eating out, gardening and reading. Her favourite local place is Yetts of Muckhart, where her mum was born.

Lynne Belton, Chair

Lynne’s journey with Falkirk District Credit Union began in 2007, when she helped develop community and school savings collections. She later worked for the Credit Union for seven years, supporting its growth throughout the Falkirk area. After joining the Board, Lynne became Chair in 2025. She remains committed to the Credit Union’s values and to helping it provide valuable support for members and communities across the area.

Sean McGarvey

Sean joined the Board of Clackmannanshire Credit Union in 2004, inspired by its ethical approach to lending and member-owned structure. Following its merger with Falkirk District Credit Union, he joined the current Board. Sean finds it particularly rewarding when members overcome financial difficulties with the Credit Union’s support. He hopes to see the organisation continue to grow and prosper. Outside the Credit Union, Sean sings in a choir and enjoys pickleball and badminton. His favourite local place is Alva, with its views of the Ochil Hills.

Joan Herdman

Joan joined Falkirk District Credit Union as an office volunteer in Grangemouth in June 2019 and became a Board member in July 2021. She particularly enjoys meeting and speaking with members. Joan wants the Credit Union to be a place where everyone feels welcome, supported and part of the community. Outside her volunteering role, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, travelling and going to the gym. Her favourite local place is Zetland Park, which holds many happy memories from throughout her life.

John Short

John joined Clackmannanshire Credit Union in 2012, attracted by the idea of a local, ethical financial service. He became a volunteer and Board member before joining the current Board following the merger in 2024. John values hearing how Credit Union services have helped members and wants to raise awareness, grow membership and recruit future directors. Outside the Credit Union, he enjoys birdwatching and conducting seasonal bird surveys. His favourite local place is the Hippodrome in Bo’ness, particularly during the Silent Film Festival.
